Alan Day Community GardenThe Mission of the Alan Day Community Garden is “to cooperatively create an educational demonstration garden using organic, sustainable methods to support an enduring community food system.”

The Garden is open to the public, and located off Whitman and Maple Streets, just a couple of blocks from Fare Share.

Alan Day was a community activist who lived for many years in the Oxford Hills area of Western Maine. Alan was active in the visual, performing and healing arts and in cooperatives, including Fare Share Market in Norway.

Art Moves Dance ProjectArt Moves Dance Project is a collection of dance programs, rooted in Maine, with a mission to build awareness and appreciation of self-expression and the creative process. Through study, performance, and collaboration we provide a new environment for dance. We reach our audiences through many different venues including schools, workshops, festivals, civic events and professional performances.

Art Moves is located at 13 Cottage St., around the corner from Fare Share.

Cooperative Extension in Oxford County The Cooperative Extension local residents access to the resources and expertise of the University of Maine. Through educational programs, publications, and events, UMaine Extension delivers unbiased, research-based information to Oxford County citizens. Fare Share has been involved in a variety of Cooperative Extension efforts, from helping to test the marketability of local cut flowers to participation in projects to build the capacity of local growers and producers.

Healthy Oxford HillsPromoting partnerships, policies and programs that protect and enhance the health of the Oxford Hills Community.

Fare Share is looking forward to working with Healthy Oxford Hills on their Community Food Matters initiative.

Local Growers & Producers

L.O.O.K.A fine example of “we need this, so let’s make it happen,” LOOK is now in its 21st year of providing summer enrichment classes and activities for kids of all ages. The program runs for two separate weeks at the end of July (July 18-22 and July 25-29 in 2011.) Cost is $30/class and $60/week (two classes). Scholarships will be available. For teacher application, student brochure or any other questions, contact Cyndy Tinsley 890-4968 or call the SAD #17 office at 743-8972.

Moose Pond Arts & Ecology

Norway Arts FestivalUsually held from Thursday through Sunday on the second weekend in July, the Norway Arts Festival features over 100 artists and myriad events and performances held along Norway’s historic Main Street.

The lively weekend includes the Norway Triathlon, Poets on the Porch VIII, and the annual Library Used Book Sale, along with lectures, musicians, jugglers, dancers, children's activities, drummers, and giant puppets.

Norway Farmers MarketVisit Norway’s own Farmers Market every Thursday from 2:00 – 6:00, from late May through early October. Located in the town parking lot behind Fare Share, this active, local community market hosts organic, sustainable and conventional farmers and artisans.

Visit the Farmer’s Market for fruits, vegetables & flowers, unique handmade wood items, wool products, fresh fish, local fresh beef & chicken, baked goods, eggs, cheeses, jams and more …

Norway DowntownLocated at 443 Main Street (upstairs in the Fare Share building) Norway Downtown is a non-profit organization working with local people to build on the assets of a unique and treasured Main Street. Norway Downtown has a directory of local businesses and organizations, an up-to-date calendar, and a really nice map of downtown Norway. Look for Fare Share!

Norway Historical SocietyThe place to find maps, newspapers, civil war and other items. Open during the summer or by appointment.

Norway Memorial LibraryLocated down the street from Fare Share at 258 Main Street, the Norway Library has a fine collection of books, computers for public use, and a full calendar of activities and events for children and adults.

Norway Paris Community TelevisionThe mission of NPC-TV is to strengthen the fabric of community life by providing communication tools, training and opportunities for individuals, nonprofit groups, governments, educational institutions, and area businesses. They’re just around the corner at 9 Marston Street in Norway.

Norway Opera HouseRebuilt after the Great Fire in 1894, the Norway Opera House stands proudly in the center of historic Norway, Maine. Over the years, it has fallen into disrepair. The Town of Norway has recently acquired ownership and is now stabilizing the building. It will then transfer ownership to the best possible new owner. First, we must match the $50,000 as part of the Community Development Block Grant the State of Maine recently awarded to the Town of Norway to stabilize the Opera House.

O.H.M.P.A.A.

R.E.A.C.H.R.E.A.C.H. is the sexual assault crisis center for Oxford County and the towns of Bridgton and Harrison; located in South Paris. Services include a 24-hour Sexual Assault Helpline offering crisis intervention, support and information to survivors of sexual assault, their families and friends. The sexual assault may be recent or in the past. Advocates can accompany victims to seek medical attention, report to the police, go through the court system, or file for a Protection from Abuse Order. R.E.A.C.H. Educators give age appropriate presentation for grades pre-K through 12, and professional and community education. Support Groups for adult and adolescent survivors. A lending library with comprehensive selection of books is open to the public.

Responsible Pet CareResponsible Pet Care is a no-kill, non-profit feline shelter and adoption center. It was established in 1997 by a small group of people who recognized the plight of unwanted cats in the Oxford Hills community. The mission of Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills is to improve the quality of life and promote the responsible way to treat all animals.

Western Foothills Land TrustWestern Foothills Land Trust protects land by advocating locally for open space and resource protection, stewarding lands held in fee-ownership, and assisting landowners as a legal holder of donated or purchased conservation easements.
