About The Commons
The Fare Share Commons is the sunny storefront beside Fare Share Market. Its mission is to provide a welcoming and inspiring space to build a healthy and sustainable community via community dialogue on the connections between food, sustainable living and social issues; self-expression and the arts; and information and resource sharing.
Activities in the Commons are varied. Over the years, they have included potluck dinners, cooking classes, concerts, bridge games, choral rehearsals, auditions, poetry readings, art exhibit openings, political meetings, dances, galley talks by artists, writers’ jams, mothers’ groups, and private parties. An open and neutral space, the Commons has hosted baby showers, funeral services, and even a wedding.
The Fare Share staff, Board of Directors, and membership all hold their meetings in the Commons. It’s great to be right next door to the store. It’s easy to buy a cup of soup or a cold drink or do your shopping before or after the meeting.
The Commons is available for public use for $10 per hour. By special arrangement, some groups instead solicit a $1.00 donation from each participant in their activity. A donation box hangs in the middle of the room to accept cash donations. These donations help keep the Fare Share Commons open and available for all to use.
